Jo Ann Bass Death, Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jo Ann Bass, a woman whose leadership, compassion, and vision shaped not only Joe’s Stone Crab but the community she loved. Jo Ann was a woman of many roles: CEO, matriarch, tastemaker, and guardian of a brand that became synonymous with excellence. But beyond titles, she was simply “Mom” to all who had the privilege to know her.
The enduring success and cultural significance of Joe’s Stone Crab in South Florida can never be discussed without recognizing Jo Ann’s pivotal role. She led with unmatched grace and integrity, ensuring that every aspect of the business was elevated with a deep sense of humanity. Jo Ann’s legacy was built on values of generosity, wisdom, and thoughtfulness, creating a place where both guests and staff felt seen, valued, and respected.
Her influence, however, extended far beyond the restaurant. Jo Ann believed deeply in giving back to the community, quietly supporting causes that reflected her commitment to service, opportunity, and care for others. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and selflessness, and her spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
In this time of deep sorrow, the Bass family requests privacy as they mourn their loss. A celebration of Jo Ann’s life will be announced soon, allowing all who knew her to honor her remarkable legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the following organizations that were close to Jo Ann’s heart:
-
Urban Construction and Craft Academy
-
Miami Rescue Mission
-
Mt. Sinai Hospital
These causes reflect her lifelong commitment to uplifting others. By supporting them, we can carry forward her legacy of generosity and service.
Out of respect for the family and staff, the family requests no calls be made to the restaurant, and no interviews will be granted at this time. Media inquiries should be directed to The M Network at (305) 571-1455 or m@m.network.
Jo Ann Bass will forever be remembered for her love, leadership, and enduring legacy. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
