Jordan Grant Vehicle Crash Hilo, HI Death, Obituary: Gone Too Soon

The Hilo community is mourning the untimely death of 20-year-old Jordan Grant, who tragically lost his life early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Pauahi Street. The Hawaiʻi Police Department confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 12:07 a.m. on January 29, 2026, near the intersection of Pauahi and Piopio Streets, involving a 1998 Honda Civic.

According to investigators, Grant was traveling eastbound when the vehicle veered off course at a high rate of speed. The car then struck the metal railing of a bridge, causing severe damage to the vehicle. Grant, the sole occupant, was found unresponsive at the scene. Despite efforts from emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.

Preliminary investigations suggest excessive speed as a likely cause, and alcohol or drugs may have contributed, though those factors remain unconfirmed. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Friends and family have expressed deep sorrow at Grant’s passing, remembering him as a kind and promising young man whose life was tragically cut short. The Hilo community is coming together to support those affected by the loss, as they reflect on the impact Jordan made in his brief time.

As the investigation progresses, authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward. This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of speeding and impaired driving, particularly during late-night hours.
